Many of us experience tightness in the chest. This can be from sitting at a computer, or any activity that is forward focussed using the arms e.g. driving, nursing a baby, gardening etc…Stress can also create tightness is this area, as we are unwittingly bracing this area of the body, in quiet protective mode. This can adversely effect our posture, our breathing and the health of our backs.
This is one of my favourite ways to open the chest. Lie lengthways on a long foam roller. Ensuring the foam roller is supporting your body from the crown of your head to your tailbone. Reach your arms out to the side, with the palm of your hands facing up. Then use your BREATH 💨 as a means of gently stretching you from the inside out. Direct your breath into the sides of your ribcage, into the back of your ribcage. Allow your whole torso to expand as you breath in, and simply allow gravity to gently release you as you exhale. Stay here for 5 to 10 mins. This should feel really nice & is the perfect antidote to a tough day 😊
